And at Cheers—the bar where the show takes place—everyone really does know your name. Every time Norm Peterson walks in, people shout his name in unison. But, of course, it's also a metaphor. Cheers is a welcoming place in a welcoming town (go Sox!), where everyone from a smart aleck postman to a former MLB player to a snooty professor can hang out and get along…ish.
